FDA Cautions: Hair-smoothing Products Can Release Formaldehyde

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that hair-softening products pose a risk of release of formaldehyde gas.
Formaldehyde gas is a human carcinogen classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and its presence in the air can cause serious irritation to the eyes, nose and lungs, as well as allergic dermatitis .
The FDA recommends that not all hair softening products contain formaldehyde, so users are advised to check the label for these ingredients before use.
